Why PSU?
Polotsk State University ensures comprehensive study of the main language (English, German or Russian) and thorough study of a second foreign language. There is a possibility to study Swedish, Turkish, French or Chinese as a third foreign language. The academic program includes study of a broad spectrum of courses for pedagogy and translation activity.
A specialist, having received knowledge in the program, is fluent in two or more foreign languages. Received knowledge makes it possible to take Master's degree course specializing in Language Theory, Literature of the Peoples of Foreign Countries, Translation, Interpreting and Translation Studies, Theory and Methods of Teaching (foreign languages). Skills and abilities on Foreign Language Teaching Methods and other general professional courses make it possible to be engaged in Organization and Management, Teaching, Educational and Methodological activities in the sphere of education.

“I am the head of the biggest management office on “ONT”, in fact, it is the half of the whole TV Channel!!! At present I work in the office, deal with eternal calls, сonferences, morning conferences, briefings, papers, accounts, registers and a great number of other daily “interesting” routine without days off and holidays! Before that I worked as a TV journalist writing a huge number of words, texts, interviewed, walked thousands of kilometeres, visited more than fifty countries and almost all continents!!! Сertainly, it wasn't without hustle and bustle, but at the same time I was engaged in unbelievable whirl of events and impressions! And Polotsk State University is under my belt: professors' wisdom fostered love for a word from my first academic year! And that is the most important thing, to my mind. It doesn't matter whether it is the Belarusian language or the German language! Professors taught me to think, reflect and cerebrate! They made me treat anything written and said words with respect!
“I entered History and Philology Faculty specializing in the German language in 1995. After finishing my fourth academic year I went on internship to Germany and remained there having received a place to study at Mainz Univerity in Translation Faculty. At present I am listed as a court interpreter at Karlsruhe court (Baden Württemberg, Germany). As for my studying at Polotsk State University, I would like to mention professors' professionalism, their brilliant practical and theoretical background. I managed to pass my entrance examinations to enter Germany university. In addition, lecture notes and practical advice of professors at German Language Depatment were useful while studying at Germany University. “My familiarity with foreign languages began in 2006 when I entered Polotsk State University. Five years of studying was incredibly interesting and just flew by. And it is our wonderful professors' credit: not only did they give necessary knowledge to us, but they also were able to make us interested in the process of studying. Having received my Diploma, I was seconded to Viciebsk customs office where I work till present as a chief customs officer. My job is not connected with foreign languages directly, but knowing German and English helps me in my professional occupation. Customs clearance and customs control presuppose work with commercial and shipping documents in Russian and foreign languages. Due to knowledge I received at Polotsk State University, I can easily deal with my official duties”.
“When I entered Polotsk State University in 1993, we were the first students of History and Philology Faculty. The university helped me to acquire sound knowledge. Due to it, I worked successfully as a foreign languages teacher in Polotsk at first, later I worked at Education Department of Polotsk City Executive Committee. From 2014 I have been the head of Information and Documentation Provision Office. I often use English on my new post. Withing the framework of partneship between Polotsk and sister city Friedrichshafen, I correspond with German partners, help other departments of Executive Committee to cooperate with German partners”.
“Polotsk State University became a start in life for me. Due to the university I speak two languages. In addition, I was lucky to work in Germany, and later went there to work as an interpreter. I have been living in Liepiel' that is why the university is situated in the neighbourhood. The same made my parents' financial life easier. I received sound knowledge at university. Professors are real professionals, they were always interested in my results. I still remember their classes and try to use their creative way of teaching in my own classes at school”.
