On November, 18, the students of the faculty of Geodesy of Polotsk State University took part in the competition of GIS-projects among students and postgraduates of the Republic of Belarus that took place at the Faculty of Geography of Belarusian State University.

On November, 18, the students of the faculty of Geodesy of Polotsk State University participated in the competition of GIS-projects among students and postgraduates of the Republic of Belarus that took place at the Faculty of Geography of Belarusian State University.

International day of Geoinformation Technologies has been celebrated in mid-November every year since 1999 during Geography Awareness Week organized by National Geographic Society. Users of GIS-technologies from more than 80 countries all over the world hold public events this day: open lectures, seminars and presentations, demonstration of possibilities discovered by geoinformation technologies. The aim of the events is to spread modern geographic knowledge and broaden awareness about GIS-technologies among non-professionals.

This year 18 projects have participated in the competition. Their authors are representatives of Geography and Military faculties of BSU, Geodesy faculty of PSU, geography faculty of Brest State university named after A.S. Pushkin, Natural Science faculty of Belarusian State Pedagogical university named after Maxim Tank.

The competition of GIS-projects was held in three nominations:

  • Application of GIS-technologies in scientific research.
  • Application of GIS-technologies in research of applied data.
  • Creation of GIS of information and reference and educational data.

The students of Polotsk State University presented two projects that have become laureates of the competition in the nomination « Creation of GIS of information and reference and educational data».
