Starting from March 19 to March 23 Tatiana Igumnova, Larisa Skripko and Natalia Fedorovich, the Lecturers at the Department of World Literature and Foreign Languages, participated in the training program «Certificate in Vocational English Language Teaching». The training itself appeared to be a part of «English for Engagement and Employability – English Teacher Development Program». Among program organizers one may find Minsk State Linguistic University and the British Council in Ukraine supported by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus.

The very first stage included a competitive admission provided by the British Council. According to the results, only 24 Lecturers from different parts of Belarus became the selected ones. The course was held in English on the basis of the specially chosen materials.

Belarusian Lecturers

The aim of the course was to analyze peculiarities of English teaching methods for professional activity including all levels of language proficiency examination (writing, reading, speaking, listening and comprehension). One more point dwelled upon tasks creation and choosing teaching and learning materials taking into account students’ knowledge level and their sphere of expertise. The participants dealt with English for professional activity issue and analyzed students’ motivation and learning needs. The lecturers discussed the most efficient methods of learning English and the impact of authentic materials and tasks. Moreover, they learned how to choose and to adapt learning materials meeting students’ needs.

Participants

The program ended with the award ceremony where the British Council members and course managers were invited. The participants received the certificates and expressed their gratitude for such a marvellous possibility to promote one`s level and to share their experience.

In conclusion, such kinds of training programs surely lead both to upgrading skills and to foreign languages teaching improvement. Sooner it will be possible to make the next step towards teaching and learning process.
