On March 5, 2020, Russian Language “GURU” Club was held at the students’ residence №6 of Polotsk State University. February and March are full of holidays in which a man and a woman are the main characters. That’s why we decided to talk about relationships.
Cheerful moderators Yana Tarasevich and Zhenya Ostrovsky, the volunteers of “My Belarusian Guide”, carefully guided the international students on their way of learning some key information.
Any relationship starts with an acquaintance. And we organised a speed acquaintance for the students to talk to each other for 2 minutes and ask the questions to form an opinion on a new person. Of course, our always-ready-to-help moderators prepared a list of questions for the timid participants to follow. To tell the truth, most of the students knew each other and the acquaintance looked like “I want to know something more about you”.
The teams expressed their creativity and resourcefulness during the “Sculpture” stage. They were to express their understanding of friendship and love through a sculpture. All the others were trying to decipher the message. And then, the team explained the hidden meaning of their masterpiece. There’s nothing more exciting than to enjoy creative activities and kid around. In Russian of course.
After that, the participants were asked to discuss the important and not very important matters that allowed nobody to stay indifferent:
- Do you believe in friendship between a man and a woman?
- What is friendship?
- Who is the most interesting person you’ve ever met?
- Do you believe in love from the first sight?
- What should people do for their relationship to be strong?
- What is the thing that can destroy relationship?
- Name three personal qualities of a partner that are important for you.
The next stage was creating an ideal friend portrait. The students listed the important features that an ideal friend cannot dispense with. In their turn, the volunteers created a matrix to help the teams present an image of an ideal friend.
And, of course one often gives presents to a partner to express the feelings. The participants were asked to demonstrate the present in an unusual way: they drew it on a sheet of paper placed on the author’s head. All the rest tried to interpret the works of abstract art. It was quite a difficult task but everyone enjoyed it.
