From 10th to 12th October 2019 Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law (Lund, Sweden) hosted a seminar devoted to the experience exchange among the professors of law and gender. The participants were representatives of higher educational establishments of the Republic of Belarus, Nigeria, Kenya, Turkey, Sweden, etc. Their main goal was to present the juridical study programs on “Gender and Law”.
Polotsk State University was represented by the Head of the Department of Criminal Law and Criminalistics, PhD in Law, Associate Professor Yulia Prikolotina and the Senior Lecturer of the Department of Theory and History of State and Law, PhD in Law Irina Shakhnovskaya.
On the first day of the seminar, the participants presented study programs, discussed problematic issues of teaching, set aims and objectives, and mentioned the skills and knowledge necessary for students after graduation.
On the second day of the seminar, the participants visited the Department of Gender Studies (LU) where they found out more about the study process, law and gender courses at different faculties, scientific research held at the university, and about the difficulties of working with the international students (language difficulties, cross-cultural aspects, etc.). The second day of the seminar ended with visiting the Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights Library. The participants learnt about the human rights informational resources in English and French.
On the final day of the seminar, the guests worked in a team of 2 or 3 people. The groups were discussing the further implementation of the knowledge acquired and the prospects in teaching gender and law courses. The participants had an opportunity to discuss problematic aspects concerning the students’ competences formation and the application of the interactive methods of teaching.
All in all, the three-day seminar was fruitful and rich in events. During the seminar, the participants acquired new knowledge in the sphere of teaching gender and law courses. They were also given recommendations about the choice of foreign literature on human rights and the implementation of the interactive methods of teaching.
