The study process is organized according to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) standard. There are 6 language levels defined by CEFR:
- А1, А2 – basic user
- В1, В2 – independent user
- С1, С2 – proficient user
The study program intends to complete one level in one year. The learner receives the certificate after successful completing the language level course.

Programs
The program is focused on mastering one reference language level per year according to The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages standard.
The written assessment test is taken at the end of the first semester in order to evaluate stu-dents` progress. The course finishes with an examination which covers grammar, reading compre-hension and writing skills.
We offer modules at six language levels:
Basic User (A1, A2)
A1 (Beginner)
- understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at meeting your everyday needs
- name surroundings
- introduce yourself to others and to ask and answer questions about personal details such as where you live, people you know and things you have
- interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help
- fill out forms and questionnaires
- sign cards
A2 (Elementary)
- understand certain sentences and frequently used expressions
- deal with simple and straightforward information
- communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar matters
- describe in simple terms aspects of your background, immediate environment and matters in areas of immediate need (very basic personal and family information, health, local geo-graphy, employment, hobbies)
- read and understand simple texts
- reproduce the information providing two or three sentences
- create form letters and fax Independent
User (B1, B2)
B1 (Intermediate)
- understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly en-countered in work, school, leisure, etc
- understand the content of radio and TV programs
- guess the meaning of unknown words in the context based on your visual memory
- deal with the information from the newspapers or Internet recourses on familiar top-ics
- express requests, hopes, emotions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans
- produce simple statements on topics which are familiar or of personal interest
- participate in a discussion of a film you watched or a book read
- write business and personal forms of correspondence
B2 (Upper-Intermediate)
- understand the message of presented information on familiar topics
- perceive the content of news programs and films
- grasp the main ideas of complex texts on both concrete and abstract topics, includ-ing technical discussions in your field of specialization or literary texts
- interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible without strain
- learn to lead discussions and to express your point of view
- explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options
- create well-organized written texts
Proficient User (C1, C2)
C1 (Advanced)
- understand a wide range of longer texts and reports, recognize implicit meaning
- be able to understand sophisticated texts on different topics, including special ar-ticles and technical instructions
- express thoughts fluently and spontaneously without much obvious searching for expressions
- produce clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, showing con-trolled use of patterns, connectors and cohesive devices
- depict diagrams and maps
- use language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes
- express your ideas in a clear and consistent manner in the written form
C2 (Proficiency)
- understand with ease virtually everything heard, including speech peculiarities of native speakers
- summarize information from different written sources (instructions, articles with special terminology, etc)
- participate in a discussion freely expressing your ideas, using various colloquial and idiomatic expressions
- express yourself very fluently and precisely, differentiating finer shades of meaning even in more complex situations, providing arguments
- express your ideas in a clear and consistent manner in the written form
Course requirements
- maintain discipline and comply with the internal regulations of PSU
- attend every scheduled class meeting. Lengthy absence is detrimental to efficiency of the educational process (in case of justifiable reason a student is to give documentary evi-dence). Bear in mind that none part of the paid sum will be returned if you do not attend the classes. Do not forget warning about your absence in advance
- if a student fails to attend more than 30% classes, the certificate affirming a successful completing the language level course is not received. The course fees will not be refunded
- if a student misses an exam or fails to get a satisfactory mark, the course is considered to be incomplete. The certificate is not received.
