On April 11-12, 2017 the meeting between the academic staff of Geodesy and GIS Department, students of the study programme «Geography (Geoinformation systems)» of Polotsk State University with a representative of the Dutch company «HERE Global B.V., The Netherlands», the head of content acquisition and community department for Russia and CIS countries sub-region Victor Rudoy was held. The visit was aimed at the cooperation establishing and practical skills application of Geoinformation technologies in navigation systems.
The programme included two lectures with students – «Presentation of HERE company. Experience of HERE company interaction with universities in Russia and CIS countries», «WEB-cartography», also the discussion of further cooperation between Geodesy and GIS Department and the company.
HERE is a leading global supplier of digital maps, traffic data and other information for GIS, including navigation systems.
Nowadays HERE represents cartographic data and geolocation services for more than 200 countries. The company also cooperates with different universities in the field of geoinformation systems, including Moscow State University of Geodesy and Cartography.
The further cooperation between HERE company and Polotsk State University implies signing the Agreement and realization of the pilot project for teaching students to create geographic services and navigation systems. The project will consist of two modules: cameral and field. The assistant for participants of the project will be the fifth-year student Victoria Yermakova who has had an internship in Saint Petersburg department of the branch.
The students who study «Geography (Geoinformation systems)» and «Geodesy» can take part in the project. According to the results the representatives of HERE company will summarize the work and choose best participants who can take part in international summer camps.
