Cramming grammar rules is not only boring but also inefficient. It is important to use your knowledge in practice if you want to make your speech grammatically correct. The organizers of the Grammar Club provided this opportunity to the meeting participants who came on the last autumn day.
As usual, the organizers provided a short welcoming speech in the beginning. Then, the students, who came to a very cozy room to attend the meeting, were offered various creative tasks, which were not the simplest ones.
Olga Zhuravskaya, Head of the Centre for Foreign Languages Study explained: “Everything we do serves two purposes. The first one is to practice speaking; the second one is to master the grammar structures. All the situations we create can happen in the real life.”
As always, the meeting was multinational, but this fact didn’t hinder mutual understanding and support. They worked in pairs, in groups and individually. All the attendants worried about each other and tried to help each other. We must admit that the students’ vocabulary has expanded, thus they need less help to express themselves in English.
One more thing that should be noted is that all the participants were of different age. Nevertheless, the generation gap was not observed. This was achieved thanks to the organization and tasks. Everyone could find their place in the conversation.
The Centre staff would like to thank all the students that attend the meetings and help the organizers. They also note that anyone who has a desire to attend the meeting (even if you are not a Centre student) will be able to do that in the following semester. You’ll get acquainted with the teachers, methods and forms of learning a foreign language at our university. Try your hand and maybe you will never want to leave the Centre!
