On December 27, 2012, at the most beautiful place of Polotsk, in the pearl of old town – Polotsk Collegium – a festive ball dedicated to the 200th anniversary of proclamation of Polotsk Academy was held.
200 years ago by the Emperor Alexander I decree Polotsk Jesuit Collegium was transformed into the Academy with giving of the university rights. In ancient Polotsk land free sciences, philosophy, literature and foreign languages blossomed. The Academy had an extensive research library, its own printing house and museum. During the eight years of its existence the Academy brought up many worthy sons, whose names were known far outside the country.
Now here educational and laboratory buildings of Polotsk State University are situated. Past and future merge into one, centuries-old tradition is firmly intertwined with progressive luggage of the 21st century – the latest technologies and innovations.
At the ball there were invited members of the University Council, the Young researchers Council and student activists, and also the chairman of the Polotsk City Executive Committee Alexander Poznyak. Rector Dmitry Lazovsky made a congratulatory speech to the guests. Doctor of history, professor Denis Duk told briefly about history of Polotsk Collegium.
One of the main surprises of the evening there was contest “Christmas illusions” where lecturers and students of eight faculties competed in vocal prowess. Representatives of the Faculty of Information Technologies – student Levon Kehvoyan and docent of the Department of software engineering Arkady Oskin – won. Then guests were invited to the dance hall where organizers prepared for them fun contests and dances.
