This is the story of an economics student's journey, choosing and getting to know the Polotsk State University in Belarus and combining classical history and culture with modern developments.
When I decided to pursue a Master's degree, I searched and learned about various economics-related foreign schools. One of the options I considered was the Polotsk State University, where the spark of classical and modern collision fascinated me. I was fortunate to pass the interview with the Polotsk State University, where the economics program perfectly matches my career.
The classical side of Polotsk State University
In 1581, in the oldest city in Belarus, the Jesuit Society was founded in Polotsk and later transformed into the Jesuit College - the first institution of higher education in Belarus, which was the predecessor of the University of Polotsk. A school needs the city's culture as its foundation, and Polotsk is a city in the Vitebsk Region of Belarus, located on the banks of the Daugava River. The town has historically been the heart of Belarus and is the oldest city in Belarus, with over 1,000 years of history, and there are many historical sites in the old town of Polotsk. The most beautiful things in Polotsk, in my opinion, are the old buildings from the last century and the rich and long history and culture.
Polotsk State University started to develop into a modern university in recent times, and from 1968 to date, it has become the top general University in Belarus. Over the past fifty years, the University has evolved from a century-old classical university into a modern comprehensive university, preserving the best traditions of higher education and becoming a centre of intellectual excellence, a base for scientific research in various fields, and an endless source of spiritual and cultural satisfaction for students. It is a place where many students want to further their studies, with many specialities that provide talent for Belarus.
The modern side of Polotsk State University
Polotsk State University, one of the top ten universities in Belarus, was founded in 1958 in the new industrial city of Novopolotsk, near the town of Polotsk. Ten years later, in 1968, the Novopolotsk Polytechnic Institute opened a new chapter in its history and soon became a centre of science and education in Belarus and throughout the Soviet Union.
The steady progress and careful planning of the Novopolotsk Polytechnic Institute led to the improvement of its hardware, the opening of new and popular disciplines and faculties, and the successful transformation of the Polytechnic Institute into the Polotsk State University in 1993. Polotsk State University is renowned for its high level of teaching, the strength of its disciplines, and its ability to combine the classroom and research with practice. Thanks to the University's active foreign exchange and cooperation, it has been able to bring together a wide range of talents to build up the university and train specialists in various significant fields and disciplines in Belarus.
My experience at Polotsk State University
Before arriving in Belarus, I had been filled with excitement and apprehension about my study trip. Due to the epidemic, some of our courses were conducted online. I was very much looking forward to studying face-to-face with my tutors on campus and being eager to experience Belarus's natural and human environment as soon as possible.
On the way to Polotsk State University, the idyllic scenery was a welcome relief from the hardship of the journey, and I was fascinated by the unique architectural features of Belarus, the harmonious planning and greenery of the city, and the easy access to public transport, which made me fall in love with the town immediately. Upon arrival at the school, we were warmly welcomed by the head of the department and our tutors, who talked to us about the rest of our studies and life.
Studying at Polotsk State University, I have enjoyed a quality European education and a unique view of the geographical centre of Europe. Unlike the universities in China, surrounded by walls and gates, the National University of Polotsk is integrated. It is well connected, making it a better place to experience the integration of study and life. When I'm in my room working on my dissertation, I enjoy the view from my balcony window and record a clip of the clouds changing in the sky. I also went to the Danube with my friends after school and watched the sunset, making me feel comfortable living in such a comfortable environment. As an international student, it is not easy to study away from home, but I enjoyed my time in Polotsk thanks to my caring tutors and fellow students who helped me with my studies and life.
At this school, both classical and modern, I felt the collision of classical and contemporary. In the classical atmosphere, experiencing the classical new Polotsk, I visited the art gallery near the school. The paintings were fantastic and gave me a taste of Belarusian art and culture. Not only that, but I explored the city with my friends, visiting its cultural heritage and experiencing the history of the town of Polotsk. In a modern environment, I have been able to enrich my expertise in economics through a variety of exchange studies at the University, keeping up with the times and constantly innovating and improving myself..
The excellent classical and modern cultural base of the Polotsk State University, the high quality of the courses taught, and the harmonious atmosphere of mutual respect and cooperation between teachers and students have created many talented people in economics.
