On May 16, 2013, the History and Philology Faculty of Polotsk State University celebrated its 20th Anniversary. The concert was named “Homecoming”. In the Concert Hall there gathered former and current lecturers, students and guests. Slides showing history of the Faculty development flashed on the screen. Entertainers Violetta Demeschenko and Valentin Plyasun began the concert.

Dean of the Faculty, associate professor, candidate of philological sciences Natalia Lysova made a warming speech. She talked about the most important pages of the Faculty history listing achievements of students, alumni, the Faculty, and noted that each year the Faculty reached ever-new heights. Also at the event there were heard congratulations from Maria Putrova, a candidate of philological sciences, a senior lecturer, the Head of the English Language Department; Rimma Larina, a former lecturer of the History Department, a candidate of historical sciences, a senior lecturer and Evgenia Urlik, a graduate of the specialty “English Language. Belarusian Language and Literature”. Another important event was the awarding of the most active students and outstanding teachers of the Faculty of History and Philology.

After congratulatory speeches musical and dancing performances started. Folk group “Vargan” (director – Olga Emelyanchik) was good at singing. Kristina Kislova, Polina Tkachenko, Andrey Vysotsky performed in the concert. Denis Kondakov, one of the best graduates of the History and Philology Faculty, who worked at the Sorbonne, prepared special gift for students and teachers – video congratulation in Russian and French.

2nd Academic year students showed spectacular dance to Beyonce song «Girls». 1st Academic year students sang “An anthem of freshmen”. 5th Academic year students Irina Gutor, Victoria Nesterenko, Alexey Kritov presented humorous and at the same time very instructive sketch about a translator.

The final chord of the Faculty Day was the performance of the University studio “Zhemchuzhina” with fiery Spanish dance.

Time passed quickly, and the excursion into the past left an indelible impression in hearts of the audience. We wish the Faculty prosperity, success and longevity!
