On September 22, 2017 the Rector of Polotsk State University, a Doctor in Engineering, a professor Dmitry Lazovsky took part in the II International Council of Rectors of Universities with Mining Engineering educational profile. The event was hosted by Saint Petersburg Mining University where 120 universities from more than 60 countries were represented.

 

The II International Council of Rectors of Universities

The main issue of the Council of Rectors was aimed at the unification of a profile education. The key role for achieving this goal belongs to the International Competence Centre for Mining-Engineering Education under the auspices of UNESCO at the base of Saint-Petersburg Mining University. The Centre will represent an international stage for the formation of modern competence standards for the personnel of mining companies and for a single educational environment of profile universities. According to UNESCO agreement the Centre is an independent legal entity which has a corresponding functional autonomy with its main executive setting in the form of the Supervisory Board.

The International Competence Centre for Mining-Engineering Education

During the Council of Rectors the participants discussed main goals and objectives in each area of Centre activities, approved its final composition and work groups along the main areas of Centre activities. The participants of the Council of Rectors of Universities also took part in the following discussions:

  • «Development of a single educational environment as a mechanism for increasing access, quality and attractiveness of mining education»;
  • «Development of a single system of international attestation and certification for engineering staff of mineral resources companies»;
  • «The International Competence Centre as a laboratory for ideas in the development and realization of resource-saving and energy-efficient technologies».

According to the results of the II International Council of Rectors of Universities with Mining Engineering educational profile the Resolution was passed and the International Program Supervisory Board was enacted and composed from the rectors of partner universities and interested companies:

  • University of Mining and Geology «St.Ivan Rilski» (Bulgaria).

The representatives of federal executive and legislative authorities, ministries and government departments of the Russian Federation, leading Russian and International companies of mineral resources sector, non-government organizations and a leading specialist in the education and science sector of UNESCO Jean-Paul Ngome Abiaga. Together with Polotsk State University one more Belarusian higher educational establishment (Belarusian National Technical University) was represented.
