On July 9-15 of 2019, the International Petroleum Youth Forum IPYForum-2019 was held in Almetyevsk (the Republic of Tatarstan). The forum was organized by the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation, PJSC TATNEFT and Petroleum Industry Youth Council under the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation.
The main event of the forum was “Hackathon Oil TATNEFT Challenge”. For personal achievements in business-problem solving, the group of experts awarded Yulia Bulavka, PhD in Engineering, Associate Professor at the Department of Technology and Equipment of Oil and Gas Processing of Polotsk State University, with a one month internship at PJSC TATNEFT.
Yulia Bulavka was gladly shared her impressions: “It was necessary to pass a competitive selection to participate in ‘Hackathon Oil TATNEFT Challenge’, the main event of IPYForum-2019. A test and a self-presentation video were among the competition tasks. There were more than 500 people from Russia and neighbouring countries: lecturers, postgraduate and bachelor students specializing in “Oil and Gas Engineering” and “Information Technology”; recent graduates working at Fuel & Energy Complexes. 252 people passed the competitive selection and 42 international teams were formed. The teams solved real business-problems faced by the leading petroleum companies in Russia and neighbouring countries.

- Efficient subsurface use of brownfields;
- HTR reserves and unconventional hydrocarbon sources;
- Digital transformation of oil and gas producing industry;
- Digital refinery revamp;
- Alternative energy.
National Training Fund developed a unique educational programme together with the Corporate University and Technological Development Centre of PJSC TATNEFT.
In addition, National Training Fund organized a special training for lecturers participating in IPYforum-2019. It was aimed at preparing them for successful performance at ‘HOT CHALLENGE 2019’.
Besides, a great number of trainings such as “Efficient Teamwork”, “Design Thinking”, “Projects Managing in a Company”, “Effective Presentation” and master-classes on key topics of the International Petroleum Youth Forum were organized for IPYForum-2019 participants.
On July 12, Petroleum Summit of Tatarstan and International Petroleum Youth Forum participants gathered together to discuss topical issues of oil and gas industry. Among the discussants were: Rustam Nurgaliyevich Minnikhanov, President of the Republic of Tatarstan, Pavel Sorokin, Deputy Minister of Energy, Nail Maganov, Director General at PJSC TATNEFT, Svetlana Rodionova, Head of the Russian Federal Service for Supervision of Nature Resources, Farid Mukhametshin, Chairperson of the State Council of the Republic of Tatarstan, Igor Shpurov, Director General of the State Commission for Reserves of Commercial Minerals, representatives of ministries and institutions of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Tatarstan, heads of oil regions and cities of the Republic of Tatarstan as well as representatives of petroleum, service, petrochemical, and refining companies of the country.
Before the panel discussion, the participants had an opportunity to visit the exhibition of the leading petroleum technologies and see the developments of such companies as PJSC TATNEFT, Naberezhnochelninsky Pipe Works, Russian Innovation Fuel and Energy Company, Kamsko-Volzhsky Joint-Stock Company of Rubber Engineering, Joint Stock Company “Neftech”, ELKAM, Hytera Communications Corporation Limited, TNG-Group, TAPART and Kazan Federal University.
The results of the hackathon were announced and it was delightful to be among the winners”.
