Entertaining classes for international students have already become a vital tradition at the Faculty of Information Technologies at PSU. On April 30, 2019 another master-class in a modern IT-direction “The Internet of Things” took place at Polotsk State University.
The master-class was held in the VR-laboratory at PSU which is the first university laboratory in Belarus. The master-class was held by Alexander Lukyanov and Pavel Yaroshevich, assistant lecturers at the Department of Computing Systems and Networks.
The normal Internet can be called “The Internet of People” where people create, change and send the received data. The Internet of Things (IoT) is a network of objects that interact with each other without any human intervention. IoT is changing the world right now: a wide variety of devices are already connected to the World Wide Web, and the number of “smart” things is increasing every year.
The master-class consisted of two parts. At first students learnt about the theoretical bases of new technologies. They learnt about the way the IoT works without any human intervention and discussed relevant trends for the IoT development in the coming years.
The two topics were discussed during the practical part:
- Independent modification of web server configuration files to add new functionality when managing LEDs.
The students used a Raspberry Pi 3 single-board computer to do this task. Everyone could test their programme and ensure that everything succeeded.
- Development of the software code for additional functionality of the demo mobile application for Androids.
Under the lecturers’ supervision each of the students launched a mobile application for Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro.
After the meeting, all the students received tasty treats from one of HTP residents LeverX Company, which is the partner of the IT Faculty.
The event organizers express special thanks to the regular participant Semira Goncho - a 1st-year student at the IT Faculty - for helping French-speaking perspective students who have not been good at Russian yet.
The Faculty of Information Technologies makes it easy to learn any IT directions even such difficult as the creation of programmable mobile systems. Join the IT Faculty and change the world!
