On June 1, 2018 our city lighted up with a jubilee colours: a pretty young oil city celebrated the 60th Anniversary! Novopolotsk is one of the youngest Belarusian cities. It is no coincidence this year it is considered to be the Capital of Culture of Belarus. Naturally, the city has no such a centuries-old, but still exciting history. The historic events remained a mark in the chronicle of this marvelous place.
The municipal administration carried out the huge celebration program. Traditionally, the representatives from Polotsk State University – the administration, other academic staff and, surely, students – were active in participating. This year the city has presented a flood of pleasant surprises and memorable events: festivals, concerts, art exhibitions and evenings, “Master City”, beauty contest, children game and dance, fun youth programs, meetings with various artists and lots of other entertainment.
On June 7 “Naftan” Palace of Culture held the award ceremony consecrated to Novopolotsk distinguished workes. Dmitry Demidov, Chairman of Novopolotsk Executive Committee, became a performer of the ceremony.
Among those who were awarded the Certificate of Novopolotsk City Executive Committee for long-time work in the educational sphere one may find:
- Igor Magalinsky, Dean of the Faculty for International Students
Oleg Buevich, Chairman of Novopolotsk Board of Deputies, awarded the Certificate of Novopolotsk Board of Deputies the ones being dedicated workers obtaining professional excellence and active participation in public life:
- Irina Kechko, Head of the Social Information Technologies and Services Department
- Olga Pavlova, Methodology Specialist at the Department of Educational Work
Mowing further, PSU students and while also the prime representatives of the construction brigade “Evrika” of the Hero of the Soviet Union Viktor Voronko, were awarded the Certificates of Appreciation and “vouchers”. The procedure opened the 3rd Semester – 2018.
As for the evening, the final of Novopolotsk Beauty Contest “Miss Novopolotsk – 2018” took place at Novopolotsk Cultural Centre. The charming representatives of our university participated. Here we name the students of the following faculties: the Faculty of Humanities – Darya Yankovskaya and Tatiana Kosenko, the Faculty of Information Technologies – Viktoriya Ashurkina, the Faculty of Civil Engineering – Anna Kupriyanova and the Faculty of Finance and Economics – Darya Urban. According to the results, Darya Urban is the official title holder of “Miss Novopolotsk”.
On June 9, the traditional procession dedicated to the City Day celebration made a good start. That huge column settled down the Novopolotsk central street comprising the representatives from the city governance, community workers, numerous organizations, institutions and the guests. Dmitry Demidov, Chairman of Novopolotsk Executive Committee, and our special guests – Natalia Kochanova, Head of the Executive Office of the President, Yury Bondar, Minister for Culture, and Feodosy, Archbishop of Polotsk and Glubokoye – led the procession.
The opening ceremony of the 60th Anniversary of Novopolotsk commenced with a welcome speech by Dmitry Demidov, Chairman of Novopolotsk Executive Committee. Sooner the welcoming procedure continued by Natalia Kochanova`s presentation. She read out the welcoming address of the President afterwards congratulating city dwellers and its guests. Natalia Kochanova expressed gratitude to the veterans of labour, community workers, city residents and the young generation for their contribution to Novopolotsk development. Also, the event paid the official tribute to the excellent city branches representatives.
Involving the Belarusian most renewable signers and celebrities, the music show became a nice event culmination. To add, thе program gathered all on the City Square of Builders. The stunning fireworks ended the celebration.
