UI GreenMetric is an international initiative by the University of Indonesia, launched in 2010 to assess and promote environmental sustainability in higher education. The ranking evaluates campus conditions, sustainability policies, and the efforts universities make to improve their operations.

The assessment is based on 60 indicators grouped into seven categories. These include the development of green spaces, the use of renewable energy sources, energy efficiency, waste management, eco-friendly transport, carbon emission reduction, as well as sustainability-focused educational programmes and research.

The ranking is designed to help universities evaluate their achievements and identify future directions for developing clean energy, conserving water resources, implementing circular waste management models, and fostering environmentally responsible habits.

Since its launch, the ranking has gained widespread recognition: the number of participants has grown from 95 universities in 35 countries in 2010 to 2,016 institutions in 110 countries in 2026. This year’s ranking theme is "Developing Sustainable Campuses: Governance, Digitalisation, and Comprehensive Impact Assessment".

Polotsk University is participating in the UI GreenMetric ranking for the second time. In 2025, it took second place among Belarusian higher education institutions and ranked 863rd globally.
