May 23, 2018 marked with a long-awaited traditional celebration program “Vivat, University!”, dedicated to the anniversary of Polotsk State University. For the first time ever PSU celebrated its Anniversary on Novopolotsk city square. Gathering the students and academicians, the event also invited PSU alumni and guests of the city.

The ceremony opened with a motocycle riding including Faculty representatives carrying their official flags. It became a purely flourish beginning. Though, the weather was not so nice, there was something really spirit stirring in the air.

The work was provided by interactive playgrounds and different university organizations enriched the celebration evening. The Faculty of Humanities presented knight tournament, the Faculty of Civil Engineering offered an extensive range of face paint. Having collaborated the Faculty of Mechanics and Technology and the Faculty of Finance and Economics welcomed all to participate in the masterclasses dedicated to bow-ties making and puzzles gathering. The audience`s mind was blew with Radio Engineering Faculty show of robots. The Faculty of Information Technologies, in its turn, shared the experience on origami making. The one, which surprised all present, was the Faculty of Law: the guys brought the dactylography suitcase. The program made by Faculty for International Students presupposed the masterclass of “Kushdepdi” dance. The volunteer playground provided the ball game and board games club. Belarusian Republican Youth Association presented gyroscooter riding. The video studio “Konspekt” opened a photo zone.

Our university youth is really active therefore annually participating in motor race and cycling. The guys set records in traditional athletic competition and shared their brilliant talents. To say, the latter are increasing year after year. In this case, the anniversary year prolonged the tradition.

The first to start was the traditional celebration athletic competition. The winner prizes were distributed by Trade Union Committee. As for the results, the winners are the following:

  • Faculty of Humanities, 1st place
  • Faculty of Mechanics and Technology, 2nd place
  • Faculty of Information Technologies, 3rd place

The ceremony of athletic competition awards was provided by Dmitry Lazovsky, PSU Rector, Professor of Engineering. Dmitry Lazovsky thanked the students for participation meanwhile expressed congratulations to the participants and guest devoted to 50th Anniversary of PSU history.

Annually, the university sums up the sports season results. This procedure concurred with PSU anniversary Day. The most active in sport appeared to be the following faculties:

  • Faculty of Humanities, 1st place
  • Faculty of Mechanics and Technology, 2nd place
  • Faculty of Civil Engineering, 3rd place

This year, the traditional motor race “From Past to Future, PSU collaboration” has been presented. The car column rode Polotsk ancient streets finishing in Mezhdurechye. There, in Mezhdurechye, a student cycling was the second to start. The cycling finish line became the novelty of the year. It was set on the city square of Builders.

Afterwards, the summing ups of motor race and cycling were announced. All that was done by Darya Guretskaya, a student at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Vice-Chairman of PSU Trade Union Committee and Aleksandr Medel, Lecturer at the Department of History and Tourism.

After having marked the most active faculties participated in the cycling, Maksim Moshtyl, Assistant Secretary of Belarusian Republican Youth Association, proceeded to awards granting:

  • Faculty of Civil Engineering, 1st place
  • Faculty of Information Technologies, 2nd place

Further, Svetlana Volochnik, Chairman of PSU Trade Union Committee, noted the most numerous motor race teams concerning cars number involved:

  • Faculty of Mechanics and Technology, 13 automobiles
  • Faculty of Civil Engineering, 8 automobiles
  • Radio Engineering Faculty, 7 automobiles

Our special guest, Andrey Odinochkin, Vice-Chairman of Novopolotsk Executive Committee for Public Services joined that lovely evening. Consequently, he also expressed congratulations to PSU.

Moving further, one more vivid colour was matched the celebration palette thanks to “Vivat, University!” flesh mob dancing. So, the representatives from all PSU faculties were engaged. Straight after, the dancers formed number “50” – PSU Anniversary date – and exclaimed “PSU – you are the one!”

Additionally, our students proved they both highly-skilled and entirely creative besides being open for new ideas and ready for marvel.

The festive evening involved the university top-chart stars` performance. Among them one could find charming singers of “Miracle” music band and dancers from “Torydance” contemporary dance school. Yaroslav Evtushevsky, a student from the Faculty of Humanities, and other outstanding guys from the Faculties of Information Technologies and Civil Engineering undoubtedly became the highlight of the evening.

The celebration peculiar gift for all the guests was the performance with two famous Belarusians. Those were Teo – the one who represented our country at the “Eurovision Song Contest – 2014” and Olga Ryzhikova – Belarusian musician and TV presenter.

The super-disco dancing “Happy Birthday, University!” became a nice continuation of the celebration. The event comprised Novopolotsk top DJ`s. Besides, a wide range of lottery games, prizes and gifts were among the offers for disco dancing participants.

Such a huge event ended with similar to it in terms of scale festive fireworks.
