Russian is a Good Way for Mutual Understanding and Agreement

On March 27, 2019 Belarusian State University held IX Republican Russian Language Olympiad for international students studying at universities of Belarus.

The Olympiad was organized by:

• Ministry of Education;
• Belarusian State University;
• International Association of Teachers of Russian Language and Literature;
• Belarusian Public Association of Teachers of Russian as a Foreign Language.

This year, about 30 universities of Belarus participated in the Olympiad. The Republican Olympiad was a good chance to test one’s knowledge in a language. There were 178 international students from such countries as Venezuela, Vietnam, Israel, India, Jordan, Iraq, People’s Republic of China, Congo, Nigeria, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Sri Lanka, Estonia, Republic of South Africa, Japan and others.

Polotsk State University was represented by: Embaia Tshodi Emmanuel (Democratic Republic of Congo), Mekan Garyagdyev (Turkmenistan), Jan-Christoph Ngoy (Democratic Republic of Congo), Semira Goncho, a 1^st – year student, Faculty of Information Technology (Democratic Republic of Congo), Michael Tvakelevo, a 1^st – year student, Faculty of Finance and Economics (Democratic Republic of Congo), Aylar Myradova, a 2^nd – year student, Faculty of Humanities (Turkmenistan), Tavus Annamova,  a 1^st – year student, Faculty of Humanities (Turkmenistan).

The participants were divided into several sections according to the command of a language, fields of specialization (philological and non-philological). It was also taken into account whether the participant is a native Russian speaker or not. 

The Olympiad lasted for 3 days. On the 1^st day, participants were to write a summary of the content, an essay and a lexical grammar test. On the 2^nd day, participants were to read poems and repeat them by heart, do listening comprehension tasks and etc.

The solemn award ceremony was held on the 3^rd day. The participants of PSU were awarded the certificate of IX Republican Olympiad for international students. Listener of the Preparatory Department Mekan Garyagdyev was awarded the honorary certificate in the nomination “For Originality in Developing a Theme”.

Participation in the Republican Olympiad allows the students to prove themselves, develop talents and broaden their horizons. The competitive spirit attracts and stimulates students, and in spite of this the Olympiad unites the participants. Participating in the Olympiad is a good way for students and teachers to start friendship.
