On May 27–28, the Third Forum of University Rectors of Belarus, Brazil, and Russia took place in Minsk. Yury Ramanouski, the Rector of Euphrosyne Polotskaya State University of Polotsk, attended the event.
The forum brought together over 100 heads of higher education institutions, all united by a common goal: to take scientific and educational cooperation to a new level. The idea of creating such a dialogue platform emerged in part thanks to the embassies of Brazil in Moscow and Minsk. During the first forum, held in Russia in 2024, a Memorandum on the establishment of the League of Belarusian, Brazilian, and Russian Universities was signed. Today, this alliance includes more than 70 higher education institutions from the three countries.
Andrei Ivanets, Minister of Education of the Republic of Belarus: "The history of the League began with the Russian Federation’s chairmanship, which laid down its core principles and outlined the first joint initiatives. Then, Brazil took over, enabling us to significantly expand the scope of cooperation and include various universities. And now, under the chairmanship of the Republic of Belarus, we are entering a new phase – consolidating the results we have achieved while setting ambitious goals for the future.
Today, the university academic community faces serious challenges and important tasks: deepening integration in research areas that are becoming critically important for the independence and sovereignty of our nations; expanding educational programs and academic exchange programs; organizing internships, scientific events, and forums; and supporting young researchers and student initiatives".
Bernardo Jorge Leopoldo de Garcia Klingl, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federative Republic of Brazil to the Republic of Belarus, emphasized the areas where partnerships could be most beneficial. The primary focus includes information technology and artificial intelligence, linguistics, the agro-industrial sector, and aircraft manufacturing. As a global leader in regional aircraft production, Brazil recognizes significant potential for technological collaboration with its Belarusian counterparts.
The main goal of the League of Belarusian, Brazilian, and Russian Universities is to create real opportunities for students and faculty, ensure academic mobility, foster joint research, and train personnel for high-tech industries.
During the event, the participants signed 14 cooperation agreements between the three countries.
The forum served as an important milestone for international academic cooperation. Participants reaffirmed their readiness to launch joint research projects, expand student exchange programs, and create new internship opportunities, which will ultimately strengthen the technological sovereignty and workforce potential of each of the participating countries.
