The complex is designed for implementing electron-beam technologies in instrument and mechanical engineering (welding, melting, soldering, modification of electrophysical surface properties).

Main Advantages
compared to traditional thermionic cathode gun-based systems:

  • Service life increased by 5-10 times
  • Higher throughput/performance
  • Simple design without expensive or rare metals
  • Operating pressure in the process chamber ranging from 10-1 to 10-5 Pa

Technical Specifications

  • Accelerating voltage: 10...30 kV
  • Beam current: up to 0.5 A
  • Beam diameter: Focused: 0.5...1 mm Wide: up to 180 mm
  • Weld penetration depth (depending on beam power): 0.8-10 mm
  • Hardening depth (depending on surface area): up to 1 mm

Source description

The sources incorporate a low-temperature plasma generator based on a low-voltage discharge with a cold hollow cathode, and — for wide beam formation — with a hollow anode; a beam acceleration electrode system; and a focusing system. The power supply system of existing thermionic-cathode-gun technological electron-beam installations can be utilized by replacing the cathode filament supply unit with a discharge power supply unit, which does not pose significant difficulties.

Implementation

These systems are successfully operating in instrument and mechanical engineering. In the Republic of Belarus, they are used for gear welding. In the Russian Federation, they are implemented in installations for electron-beam welding, coating deposition, hardening from both liquid and solid states, and sintering composite materials.

Patent Protection

The design of the plasma electron sources is protected by patents of the Republic of Belarus.
