The cultural and educational project «German weeks» has been carried out in Belarus for the past ten years and has become a good tradition for our country. Annually the German Embassy in the Republic of Belarus invites to attend many events that can get acquainted all the participants with German culture, language and society: film-screenings, theatrical performances, concerts, exhibitions, books presentations, master classes, workshops and seminars. This year for the second time Polotsk State University together with German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) took part in the events aimed at the developing educational, scientific and cultural relations between countries and educational establishments – «German weeks at PSU».

The short film festival «Shorts at Moonlight»

On September 28 the program was opened by the short film festival «Shorts at Moonlight» which took place in Polotsk gathering amateurs and connoisseurs of the cinema art. The chairman of the Mainz-Minsk Friendship Club Franz Blum presented 14 best films from the program of the annual short film festival in Mainz.

The organizers of the festival in Polotsk told about the event, and the audience from educational establishments in Polotsk and Novopolotsk shared the impressions after watching all films.

Franz Blum, the chairman of the Mainz-Minsk Friendship Club: «I’m here for the second time presenting short films for your audience. These films have been selected by the festival organizing committee in Mainz (Germany). The main peculiarity of the festival is the process of getting prizes for best films which are selected by the audience. Then these films are included in the screening program in Belarus. It means that Belarusian audience watches only the best films! Your audience also has one more advantage: in Germany the spectators have to pay for the entrance and possibility to watch films. Here it’s free.

In Belarus we’ve been carrying out the festival since 2010 in Minsk. Last year Polotsk and Brest joined, this year – Vitebsk. I hope that Belarusian audience liked the films».

I participated in such an event for the first time. I liked all the films. They are all different, connected with various topics, and they are very relevant for us. I’m also impressed that Polotsk is a small town, but many students and citizens have come here to watch the films».
