PSU hosts the international scientific conference “Architectural and Construction Complex: Problems, Prospects, Innovations” for the second time. Belarusian and foreign scientists are interested in the development of new energy and resource-conserving materials and technologies as well as in the improvement of calculation methods and design of engineering structures. On November 28th and 29th 2019, PSU hosted participants from Germany, Poland, Israel, Ukraine, Russia, Uzbekistan and Belarus.

The conference was divided into the following sections:

  • Architecture and city planning in current conditions.
  • Engineering constructions of buildings, modern methods of planning and design.
  • Energy and resource-conserving construction materials and technologies.
  • Construction and property management.
  • Innovative energy and resource-conserving environmental solutions in engineering systems of buildings and constructions.

The scientists of Belarusian National Technical University took an active part in the conference. They made a presentation in “Engineering constructions of buildings, modern methods of planning and design” and “Energy and resource-conserving construction materials and technologies” sections. The business representatives that closely cooperate with the Faculty of Civil Engineering at PSU on personnel training issues also attended the forum. Among them are JSC «Trest Belsantekhmontazh №1», “Zavod keramzitovogo graviya Novalukoml”, “Navapolatskzhelezobeton” subdivision OJSC «Krichevcementoshifer”, “Biomechzavod vtorichni bytovych produktov”.

Within two days, the participants of the conference were discussing the joint research directions as well as the questions concerning educational process organization, student and staff exchange, the introduction of new forms and methods of training, internships. Many scientists shared their opinions and expectations.

Yuri Ribakov, Professor, PhD, Member of EU Academy of Science, Chair Structural Engineering Division, Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Ariel University (Israel): “At the previous conference I was the only one representative from Israel, but now there are two of us. This time the representative of the German partner university also participates. PSU and our university have signed cooperation contracts with it.

After the spring 2018 conference, I went to Germany and told my German colleagues about the perspectives of cooperation with PSU. That led to signing the cooperation agreement with Leipzig University of Applied Sciences. In such a way, we organized a scientific triangle, and as we know, a triangle is the most stable figure from the geometrical point of view. I hope that our relationships and scientific contacts will be as stable as that figure. Besides, among the participants, there are representatives from Poland, Uzbekistan, Russia and Ukraine. I think that this conference is more successful than the previous one if we talk about its international potential. I also hope that the next conference will be even better”.

Klaus Holschemacher, Professor, Dr.-ing., Director of the Structural Concrete Institute, Leipzig University of Applied Sciences (Leipzig, Germany): “I’m a Concrete Construction Professor at Leipzig University. I carry out an active research activity in the sphere of modern building materials. We have some new projects, which I was talking about at the conference. I can’t say much as it was only the first day of the conference, but I really want to see Novopolotsk. It’s my first time here and at PSU. I’m also interested in your experience in teaching and in the research in the field of civil engineering. I want to mention that the beginning of the conference was really good: at first, I presented my project, and then Professor Ribakov presented his amazing project. I’d like to know more about it.

I was surprised to see how your university looks. I’ve read that it’s the oldest university in Belarus, but I see modern and really beautiful buildings. You have a lot of modern technical equipment, which means that your university is a well-developed one. Also, I have a very good impression both due to the high level of conference organization and a significant amount of participants from different countries. People here are also very friendly.

We have a cooperation agreement. One of our goals is the students and, perhaps, professors exchange. I can tell you about it tomorrow. We can propose academic programs, but we must be sure, that Novopolotsk students have a sufficient level of German and English to understand the courses taught”.

Vadim Parchots, a postgraduate student, Silesian University of Technology (Poland): “My presentation is about pre-stressed constructions. We scanned them with the help of the non-contact optical measuring system ARAMIS and then marked the deformations. Then we developed a project in ATENA 3D software system and compared the results of projecting and experimenting. While projecting we used different characteristics.

I came to Belarus to see how it’s going. I’m from Brest. It’s very beautiful inside your university, very good reparations were made, I like it. I think that everything is on a very good level”.

Sergei Dergunov, Associate Professor, PhD in Engineering, Head of the Department of Highways and Building Materials, Head of the Testing Center “Orenburgstroyispytaniya”, Orenburg State University (Russia): “I tried to make my presentation not only for scientists but for everyone. It’s about functional materials for concrete roads design. We have already had a cooperation agreement and I expect that the conference will expand the boundaries of interaction between our universities. Everything is fine here. The weather is warmer than in Orenburg. The conference is organized at a very high level”.

Ruslan Bekimbetov, Vice-Dean for Science at Karakalpak State University (Nukus, the Republic of Uzbekistan): “I’m going to cover the topic of floating fundament projecting in Nukus City circumstances. I came to your university two weeks ago and as a result, now we have an agreement between Karakalpak State University and PSU. That’s why we participate in the conference.

I enjoyed the buildings I visited two weeks ago: the main one, the one in Mezhdurechye and the historical building of Polotsk College. We visited laboratories, looked over the equipment and had a nice talk.

The air is very fresh in Belarus, there are a lot of forests. People are very good, and there are a lot of sights. We’d be glad to see you at our Karakalpak State University”.
