On May, 18-23, Polotsk State University celebrated its University Day. Nowadays university’s birthday is a festive week which is full of bright moments.
Any birthday is a happy time for everyone. It’s a holiday of a good mood, smiles and laughter, meetings with friends and long-waited gifts. The university’s birthday is a holiday for many students and graduates, teachers and university staff, colleagues and partners of our university. It’s always funny, joyful, unexpected and memorable.
The festive events started with the solemn opening of the exhibition «Vernisage» of the fine arts studio «Image» at the exhibition hall of PSU.
According to the tradition the awarding of the most hard-working and honest specialists of our university took place at PSU in a festive atmosphere.
Several bright and memorable events happened at Polotsk Collegium. In a solemn atmosphere the opening of the reconstruction «The Mechanical head» took place. This is a famous creation of the scientist Gabriel Gruber who has made a contribution in the development of education, science and culture.
The students and teachers of Polotsk faculties of PSU, members of University Council and the participants of the solemn meeting of University Council gathered in the courtyard of Polotsk Collegium and took part in a flesh-mob “Sing GAUDEAMUS together!”
After the sounds of the optimistic and solemn “GAUDEAMUS” the celebration in first-year students’ honor of PSU who participated in the essay contest “About yourself, study at university and profession”, took place at Polotsk Collegium.
The solemn opening of the Chess Board took place in the courtyard of the main building of PSU. This is a worthy continuation of stable traditions of the ancient game at university. The meeting of two teams, teachers and students, was the key moment of the event.
In spite of the drizzling rain hundreds of students, teachers and university staff of PSU took part in a flesh mob “Hug native university!”
After the flesh mob the traditional festive track and field relay took place which ended up with the win of the faculty of Civil Engineering.
The sporty-dance mix was presented to the audience.
The novelty in the programme of festive events was a cycle race in which students, teachers of our university took part.
During the break participants of vocal and modern dance studios cheered up the audience in spite of the drizzling rain.
The university administration was involved in the dance performance.
The traditional motor race was also an inevitable part of the University Day celebration.
The main event of the University Day – 2015 took place at the assembly hall of Polotsk State University where the solemn ceremony of the presentation with a special prize «Origin of Knowledge» in the field of science, education, sport, creativity and social work and the festive concert were held.
This year the winners are the following:
- “Honour and Glory of the University” - Vladimir Zheleznyak;
- The “Leader of the Year” - Vitaly Zalessky;
- “Teacher of the Year” – Inga Zenkova;
- “Young Researcher of the Year” – Igor Magalinsky;
- “Specialist of the Year” - Mariya Kozik;
- “Student of the Year” – Nikolay Rozum;
- “Best student group of the Year” – The group of the faculty of Radio Engineering;
- „Sportsman of the Year “ ? Ilya Lobkovich;
- “Talent of the Year” – Nikolay Kaminkov;
- „Event of the Year“ ? the opening of “UNIVERik”, a centre of preschool childhood and innovation developmental techniques.
The academic musical evening «Intermezzo» was a worthy continuation of the beautiful beginning which took place at Polotsk Collegium. The saxphonists’ concert from the Presidential orchestra of the Republic of Belarus was a genuine decoration of the evening which ended up with a salute.
The summing-up of the competition among student councils of hostels also took place at the conference hall of PSU.
School-leavers had an opportunity to visit university lectures and feel the atmosphere of student life.
The University Day – 2015 was full of events. During the week the students could take part in “Student freestyle”, a disco party. The audience and the participants of the sporty-dance mix could taste popcorn.
The most important gastronomic event of the University Day – 2015 was a share “Chocolate. Spring. Energy”. At least 5 thousand students of PSU got a bar of chocolate with a logo of the University Day!
The festive week ended up with a tourist festival among young researchers and specialists
One more novelty of the University Day – 2015 was the original gifts made by Editorial and Publishing Department.
The University Day – 2015 perfectly reflected the essence of Polotsk State University: youth, wisdom and professionalism, innovative thinking, faith and love to its alma mater.
