On November 13-16, 2013, the finance and economics faculty “Business Accounting and Audit” speciality students visited Vaclovas Lakis’ demonstration lectures. Vaclovas Lakis is a doctor of economic sciences, professor, the Head of the Accounting and Audit Department of Vilnius University.
Topical issues within the discipline “International auditing standards” were discussed during lectures.
Increased participation of the Republic of Belarus in the global economic integration poses new challenges for national accounting and audit, requires the system adoption of measures aimed at ensuring a high level of comparability, reliability and accuracy of the financial information in various sectors of the economy. As the basic tool of reforming the national accounting system adopted the International Financial Reporting Standards and International Standards on Auditing. It is an implementation of the provisions of the President of the Republic of Belarus Directive of 31.12.2010 № 4 “On the development of entrepreneurial initiative and stimulating business activity in Belarus”.
No less serious tasks of reforming accounting and audit in Belarus are in the area of economic education. In this regard, visiting scientists from EU countries where the transition to international standards has already taken place or is developing more rapidly than in the Republic of Belarus, has great scientific and practical importance.
