On October 10, a big student group of the Radio Engineering Faculty specializing in “Electricity Supply”, “Industrial Electronics” and “Design and Production of Software-Controlled Electronic Devices” visited XXIII International Specialized Exhibition “Energetics. Ecology. Energy saving. Electro” (Energy Expo’ 2018) in Minsk. The exhibition fields were the following: energetics, ecology, energy saving, lighting engineering, atomic energetics.

The students learnt about new equipment for measurement and diagnostics in power supply systems and electronic devices, devices for heat monitoring and the search for damaged cable lines. Besides, they learnt about the equipment of electrical laboratories of famous brands: Megger, Fluke, Flir and others.

Open joint-stock company “Belelektromontazhnaladka” is a big Belarusian company which offers full range of service: design, supply, erection, commissioning, repairs, testing and service maintenance of power engineering equipment and automated systems of control of technological processes, automated energy metering system and supervisory instruments and automatic equipment. Nikolai Novoseletsky, a deputy chief engineer of the company, informed the students about the enterprise work, developed equipment and proposed to do practical training at their company.

Open joint-stock company “VELAN”, which deals with manufacturing of explosion-proof electrical equipment, had an originally designed exhibition stand. The students could test the elements in action. Such explosion-proof electrical equipment was demonstrated by Private limited company “ZAVOD GORELTEX” as well.

The organizers offered the participants promotional materials and colorful catalogues of the presented equipment with detailed characteristics. The materials could be used in education and performing course and diploma projects.

A multinational corporation ABB participated in the exhibition as well. ABB is mainly operating in electrical engineering, power engineering and information technologies. They presented a show with the participation of the robot.

The exhibition expositions were very diverse: from the electrically driven cars with chargers to the industrial and outdoor lamps and cable products.

Among presented electrical equipment was modern switching and protective devices used for electric installations of both low and high voltage in electricity supply systems. Some devices could be examined and seen in action.

The equipment was exhibited for automation of production processes and automated energy metering systems graphical stations, screens, electrical meters, reassembly blocks and information transfer.

The students got a lot of new impressions and useful knowledge and liked the excursion and the trip.

Victor Petruchenko, group 14-ES: “I liked a great number of presented devices related to various spheres such as energy supply, heating, ecology, energy saving and electronics. Various international companies participated in the exhibition such as Siemens, ABB, Schneider Electric as well as producers of Belarus and other countries. The exhibition stands presented in a an unusual way attracted our attention. Companies’ representatives told about the products both to potential buyers and to us as well. We could learn more details about the equipment from the catalogues”.

Ilya Yaskevich, group 16-ES: “It was the first time I visited such event. A great number of the companies presented their innovation devices in the fields of energy supply and electronics. It was very interesting to observe how the companies’ representatives demonstrated the device functions, how the devices work in this or that accident situation. I recommend all students of our Faculty to visit this exhibition, because they will see themselves what they will work with in future. This is a very good opportunity to understand the chosen profession better”.

We would like to thank the staff of the PSU Tourism Centre, the administration of Radio Engineering Faculty and the lecturers at the Department of Power Engineering and Electronics for organizing this trip.

Alexander Adamovich, Associate Professor at the Department of Power Engineering and Electronics
